Heritage Birth Center

The Heritage Birth Center has been serving the natural birthing families in its community since 2018 with its original location in Lubbock, TX, before moving down to Abilene, TX in 2021. To give our moms and babies the luxurious, yet comfortable setting that feels like home, we decided to custom build our birth center in Abilene from the ground up!

As the only free-standing birthing center for a 2-hour radius, we frequently have clients traveling from Sweetwater, San Angelo, Cisco, Clyde, Eastland, Post, Big Spring and Lubbock who hire us to assist them in their natural birthing journey. The birth center is approximately 2500 sqft, is located in a quiet residential neighborhood near Abilene Christian University, and is only 2 minutes away from Hendrick Medical Center Hospital-North.

Birth Rooms

Our main birth rooms (Farmhouse Meadows and Coastal Retreat) are large enough to house a queen size bed, large soaking tub (which are big enough for you and your partner to sit in together), a glider chair, nightstand, and a fabric covered birth ball, while still leaving you with plenty of space to move around. Each room has a full ensuite bathroom with a sliding barn door for privacy, and a large shower with two shower heads. If case you feel like laboring outdoors, attached to each birth room are private outdoor garden patios, each with a table and chairs, shade umbrella, water fountain for quiet ambiance, and a squatting bar that can be used during labor. These patios are enclosed with privacy fences and lined with artificial grass, so feel free to walk around barefoot; you won’t have to worry about those Texas stickers!

Farmhouse Meadows:

Designed with a cathedral ceiling with stained wood beams, various farm themed artwork and decor, and calming sage green walls, our Farmhouse Meadows birth room was created to give you the feeling of a cozy modern farmhouse.

Coastal Retreat Birth Room:

Designed with a coffered ceiling, various beach themed artwork and decor, and peaceful blue walls, our Coastal Retreat birth room was created to give you the feeling of a relaxing coastal getaway.

Rustic Escape Room

Since the original Heritage Birth Center was built on the plains of West Texas, to honor that heritage, we created our Rustic Escape birth room. This room is equipped with a full size bed, a comfortable love seat, a nightstand, our yoga sling that hangs from the ceiling to assist with a variety of labor positions, and has room for an inflatable La Bassine birth tub. This room is our multi-functional room and can be used for births, IV infusions, or breastfeeding. The ensuite bathroom has a sliding barn door for privacy, and a large shower with two shower heads. Designed with a tray ceiling with wood planks, various ranch themed artwork and decor, and relaxing yellow walls, this room was created to give you the feeling of a country ranch estate.

Regardless of which room you ultimately choose for your birth experience, you are guaranteed to feel comfortable and relaxed, and with our tankless water heater, you are guaranteed to never run out of hot water!

Reception, Prenatal Room, and Kitchen

When you first walk into the Heritage Birth Center, you will find yourself in our Reception Area, where you can sit on one of our comfortable couches, read a book from our Lending Library, or admire the beautiful little feet of our Heritage babies up on the wall. Unfortunately, you may not have much time to do any of these things since we try to time our visits to be ready for you as soon as you arrive, so your average “wait time” is 5 minutes or less! Each of our prenatal and postpartum visits are done in our Prenatal Room with you relaxing on a couch, and your children playing with toys nearby, so that you are as comfortable as possible for our 45 minute average visit time. We also have a kitchen on-site that you are welcome to use when you are in labor, since we will actually be encouraging you to eat and drink throughout your labor and postpartum!
