“What can I even begin to say about Alex and Heritage Births? I can tell you that she becomes a friend, confidante, and family member. My birth was everything I wanted and more and I know deep down that without Alex it wouldn’t had been that special. I was able to usher my youngest daughter into the world with her father and siblings in attendance in the comfort of my own home. It was beyond beautiful. At one point in my birth I panicked, transition I’m sure, and with a tear in my eye I asked Alex if it was normal to be afraid. With it being my first bio child I had never experienced birth before. She gently grabbed me by the shoulders looked me in the eyes and told me yes but it’s only because it was new. It’s okay to be scared of new things but she was there to help me and with the love of everyone in the room we would be okay. Without that I’m not sure that I would have had the confidence to do it. "What a treasure we found in having Alex as our midwife! She gave us the gift of choice of how to birth and who would catch the baby among many other choices. From our very first visit with Alex to our last, I felt empowered and listened to; empowered by the options given to us and the knowledge we gained. We were given information and papers ahead of time allowing us to really digest, research and make decisions to benefit our son with no judgment no matter what we decided. I didn't want a hospital birth; I wanted a more personal, private level of care with the freedom to choose my experience. Alex did not disappoint. I enjoyed my prenatal appointments. Each time, Alex gave us valuable information about what to expect and thoroughly explained pros and cons of each option. We felt empowered to choose at each fork in the road, and Alex always supported our choices. She showed concern not only for my health, but also for my comfort and emotional health. I loved that I could text her anytime or even come for an extra appointment. I felt so supported.

Although I was physically stretched far beyond anything else I'd ever experienced, I felt solidly supported—with my husband who never left my side, my doula who supported him so he could support me and provided helpful massage, and Alex and her team to care for my baby and me. I have never felt so empowered as when I pushed my darling daughter out and immediately cradled her on my chest. My husband, who has high-level trauma training from his military background, was very impressed with Alex's setup, training, knowledge, and ability to assess and handle an emergency situation. “As a nurse who works with new moms and newborns I didn't know home births were possible. Therefore, with my first child I had a hospital birth. I went into my first birth wanting to do things naturally but found that the hospital setting is not very conducive to a natural birth. I was so thankful to have found Alex for my second pregnancy.
